LCMF is currently providing school fees assistance to vulnerable children, especially AIDS orphans, children with disabilities, and teenage mothers. Assistance includes tuition, uniforms, and school feeding support. LCMF pays fees directly to the schools where the children attend. Applications for school fees assistance are thoroughly screened by the Board of Directors and village committees. The LCMF also supports its beneficiaries when they are selected to attend public higher education institutions. The number of scholarships or bursaries given are dependent on the amount of funds raised by the LCMF fund.
So far LCMF has supported 13 students: 2 nursing college students; 1 clinical medicine student; 4 secondary school students; 4 primary school students; 2 students with disabilities. We would like to reach out to at least 100 students per district of operation. LCMF also wants to give bursaries and scholarships to teenage mothers who have dropped out of school but would like to re-enter the formal school system.
LCMF has plans to provide vocational and life skills training to girls who want to transition to adulthood. LCMF will enhance the capacity of out-of-school girls and teenage mothers through short term technical courses in Information Communication Technology (ICT), tailoring, catering, and agribusiness production. Girls graduating from the LCMF program will be given a small loan and equipment to start their own businesses.
